445th Bomber Group

Mission Statement

This site is dedicated to the men who served in the 445th Bombardment Group (H), in the 2nd Combat Wing, 2nd Air Division of the 8th Air Force during World War II. They flew from Tibenham, Norfolk, England from April 1, 1943 through September 12, 1945.

The purpose of the site is to bring together a collection of resources related to their service including enlistment, training in the States, the airfield at Tibenham, the B-24 bombers they flew, the flight crews, missions flown, and the aftermath of those missions including information on those killed in action, missing in action, and prisoners of war. The resources include a bibliography of books and journals, and links to related web sites, and a gallery of scanned original materials ranging from training manuals, enlistment paperwork, mission logs, letters, telegrams, photos of crew members, and items related to the German prison camps for airmen (Stalag Lufts 1-4).

There are many other excellent sites on the Internet related to the history of the 445th. These include B24.net, the Kassel Mission Historical Society, and the Wartime Memories Project - Stalag Luft 4, to name but a few. I hope this site will help tie together some of the disparate parts of the stories of these brave men.
